Mwaghavul 2006 Edition (SURIBS)
Overview
The Mwaghavul 2006 Edition contains Scripture in Mwaghavul (also known as Sura), a West Chadic language spoken by approximately 150,000-192,000 people in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State in central Nigeria, primarily in the towns of Mangu and Panyam [1][2]. Bible translation work in Mwaghavul has a long history: missionaries developed a writing system for the language in the early 20th century based on Yoruba orthographic conventions, and the first Scripture portion was published in 1915 [1][3]. The New Testament was completed and published in 1991, followed by continued work toward a complete Bible [3]. A revised orthography was created in the early 21st century by the Mwaghavul Bible Translation Committee, which also champions an active literacy program [1][4]. The SURIBS edition, dated 2006, represents a milestone in making Scripture accessible to the Mwaghavul-speaking community and is available in both text and audio formats through Faith Comes By Hearing.
