The Susu Bible in Arabic Script (SUSAPB)

Overview

The Susu Bible in Arabic Script is a complete Bible published in 2015 in the Susu language of Guinea, using the Arabic-based Ajami script. The copyright is held jointly by the Mission Evangelique Reformee Neerlandaise (Netherlands Reformed Evangelical Mission) and Pioneer Bible Translators. [1] The Susu people, numbering approximately 2.5 million, are predominantly Muslim (over 95%), having adopted Islam in the 18th century. [2] The use of Arabic script for this translation is a deliberate choice reflecting the Susu literary tradition: the Ajami script, an adaptation of the Arabic alphabet, has been used to write Susu since the 18th century. [3] The earliest Scripture in Susu dates to 1816, when John Godfrey Wilhelm of the Church Mission Society translated portions of the Gospel of Matthew and published them in London. [3]
