Teso 1961 Edition (TEOBSU)
Overview
The Teso 1961 Edition (Ebaibuli) is a New Testament translation in the Ateso language, published in 1961 by the Bible Society of Uganda in cooperation with the United Bible Societies. Ateso is a Nilotic language spoken by the Iteso people, the second-largest ethnic group in Uganda, concentrated in the eastern districts of Teso. [1] The Iteso migrated to their present homeland in northeastern Uganda and western Kenya over several centuries, and by the nineteenth century controlled a wide territory in eastern Uganda. [2] The 1961 New Testament was a significant milestone in making Scripture available to the Iteso in their own language. A complete Ateso Bible was later produced, and the Bible Society of Uganda has undertaken revision work on the Ateso Scriptures. [3]
