The Old Bible (TGLTAB)

Overview

Ang Dating Biblia (The Old Bible) is the 1905 Tagalog translation of the complete Bible, and the first full Bible published in the Tagalog language. [1] It was produced under the auspices of the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) and the American Bible Society (ABS), with the Philippine Bible Society established in 1899 to coordinate these efforts. [1] The translation follows a formal equivalence approach based on the American Standard Version, though it renders the divine name as "Panginoon" (Lord) rather than the ASV's "Jehovah." [1] It was part of a broader campaign by Protestant missions during the American colonial period that produced complete Bibles in eight major Philippine languages between 1905 and 1937. [1] The 1905 text was later revised in 1915 and 1933. [2] Now in the public domain, Ang Dating Biblia remains one of the most widely recognized Scripture translations among Tagalog-speaking Filipinos.
