Sudest New Testament (TGOWBT)

Overview

The Sudest New Testament contains the New Testament plus Ruth and Jonah in the Sudest language (Tagula dialect), spoken by approximately 5,900 people on Tagula Island in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. [1] Translation work began in 1985 under the leadership of Solomon Joshua, a local translator working closely with an SIL team, who drafted the entire New Testament and portions of the Old Testament before his death. [2] In 2012, The Seed Company partnered with the community to ensure the project reached completion, and the New Testament was dedicated on July 5, 2015, with attendees from Australia, Kenya, the United States, and other parts of Papua New Guinea. [2] Following the dedication, four Sudest men were selected to begin Old Testament translation. [2]
