Kuuk Thayorre Bible Portions (THDAHH)
Overview
This volume contains Bible portions in the Kuuk Thaayorre language, translated by Rev. Dr. Allen Harry Hall in collaboration with Aboriginal translators Tom and Myrtle Foote from the Pormpuraaw (Edward River) community on Cape York Peninsula, Queensland [1]. Hall had conducted linguistic research on the Thaayorr language as part of a master's thesis at the University of Queensland in 1968, which included a phonological description, grammatical outline, and samples of lexicon and oral literature [2]. Translation work spanned from 1975 to 1990, producing small local publications including Psalm 1, 1 John 1, John 3:16, and Ephesians, which were distributed within the community [1]. The text was never formally consultant-checked by the Forum of Bible Translation Associations and is considered a work in progress; the Hall family made the material publicly available despite the absence of ongoing translation work in the language [1].
