Talinga-Bwisi New Testament (TLJWBT)

Overview

The Talinga-Bwisi New Testament (called Lubwisi in Uganda, Kitalinga in DRC) was dedicated on 29 July 2016 in Bundibugyo, Uganda, after approximately 25 years of work. SIL began supporting language development among the Babwisi in 1992, and Bible translation proper commenced in 2000 after orthography and literacy work. [1] The primary translators were Charles Musunguzi and Hannington Bahemuka, with Waller Tabb serving as translation consultant since 1994. [2] The project faced evacuations, deaths, war, and Ebola outbreaks during its long development. The New Testament includes 15 Old Testament books, and Old Testament work continues. [3]

Talinga-Bwisi (ISO 639-3: tlj) is spoken by approximately 131,900 people in Northern Democratic Republic of Congo. [Glottolog: tali1258]
