Overview

The Buk Baibel long Tok Pisin is the Bible in Tok Pisin, the most widely spoken lingua franca and one of three official languages of Papua New Guinea. [1] Tok Pisin is a Melanesian Pidgin English that developed in the early nineteenth century through contact between Melanesian and European traders. [1] Translation work by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea began in 1969, with the full Bible (including deuterocanonical books) published in 1989. [2] The copyright spans 1969 to 2008, reflecting decades of ongoing translation and revision work. [2] A revision project was later undertaken to address translation choices such as the rendering of the divine name, with published selections of the revised text released in 2015.
