Tampuan Bible (TPUWBT)
Overview
The Tampuan Bible is the complete Bible in the Tampuan language, an Austroasiatic language spoken by approximately 31,100 people in the Ratanakiri province of northeastern Cambodia. [1] The translation was led by missionaries Andrew Carson and Jon Smedley, working with Wycliffe Bible Translators. [2] Andrew Carson dedicated close to 20 years to the translation before returning to Australia in 2020 due to health problems; Jon Smedley continued the work. [2] The Tampuan people first heard the gospel from missionaries in the 1990s, and most Tampuan speakers do not have strong proficiency in Khmer, making a Bible in their own language essential for the community. [2] Print editions are distributed by the Bible Society in Cambodia. [3]
