Tsishingini New Testament (TSWWBT)

Overview

The Tsishingini New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into Tsishingini (also known as Salka Area Kambari), one of three related Kambari language varieties spoken by the Kambari people of Niger State in northwestern Nigeria [1]. The Kambari people primarily inhabit the Agwara, Magama, and Mariga Local Government Areas of Niger State, and their three language varieties -- Tsishingini, Cishingini, and Tsikimba -- are not all mutually intelligible, necessitating separate translation efforts [2]. The translation was published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Translation work was facilitated by the Kambari Language Project (KLP), a Nigerian non-governmental organization established in March 1992 after consultation with the Kambari community, with a mission to encourage language development and translation for the holistic transformation of the community [3]. KLP, working with partners including Seed Company, has also produced trilingual dictionaries, literacy materials, and New Testaments in all three Kambari language clusters [3].
