Saveeng Oov Bible (TUCSNT)
Overview
The New Testament and portions of the Old Testament in the Oov dialect of the Saveeng language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2011 under the vernacular title Maaron Saveeŋ Toni Patabuaŋ. The Saveeng language (also called Mutu or Mutu-Tuam) is an Austronesian language spoken on the small coral Siassi Islands southeast of Umboi Island in Morobe Province, with three dialects: Tuam, Oov, and Malai. [1] The Oov dialect is spoken on the inner islands just off the coast of Umboi, including Aramot, Mutu-Malau, Mandok, and Aronai islands. [1] The translation was produced by SIL linguist Bob Bugenhagen and his wife, who had previously completed the Mangaaba-Mbula translation project (1982-1999) before being invited by Tuam dialect leaders to undertake Saveeng translation work. [1] Initial Oov dialect text collection and language learning began in 1998-1999, and in early 2007 the team began adapting the Tuam dialect translation to the Oov dialect using the Adapt It software, working with Oov speakers who had strong knowledge of the Tuam dialect. [1] Both the Oov and Tuam dialect editions were dedicated in April 2011. [2]
