Western Tawbuid New Testament (TWBOMF)
Overview
The Western Tawbuid New Testament was first dedicated in January 2000 in the Mangyan village of Balani, following translation work led by OMF missionaries. [1] The 2016 edition in this collection is a later publication of that translation. The gospel was first brought to the Tawbuid people in the 1960s by Russell and Barbara Reed. [1] An English missionary identified by the pseudonym "Arthur" in academic sources, formerly with OMF, lived over a decade among the Tawbuid in Occidental Mindoro and was the only English speaker fluent in Western Tawbuid. [2] Old Testament translation work began in 2009-2010, with biannual workshops held in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, involving mother-tongue translators and consultants from OMF, SIL International, and Wycliffe. [1][3] Derek (surname not recorded in available sources), an English translator, and Buen, a project coordinator, led the Western Tawbuid translation team at these workshops. [3]
