Tay New Testament (TYZPBT)

Overview

The Tay New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Tay language, spoken by the Tay people, Vietnam's second-largest ethnic group with approximately 1.6 million speakers spread across all 63 provinces of the country. [1] The translation was carried out by a Bible Society project team in under ten years and was published at the end of 2022, making it the first Bible in the Tay heart language. [1][2] The project faced significant linguistic challenges, as the Tay language lacks a common orthography, is spoken with regional variation, and its purest form is primarily used by elderly speakers. [1] Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Ma, a renowned Tay linguist, served as the primary reviewer of the translation. [1] Only about 1% of the Tay population is Christian, making this translation significant for both evangelistic outreach and the preservation of Tay language and cultural identity. [1]
