Urdu: Easy-to-Read Version (URDERV)
Overview
The Urdu Easy-to-Read Version (Muqaddas Baibal, abbreviated ERV-UR) is a full Bible translation in Urdu, published in 2003-2004 by the World Bible Translation Center (now Bible League International). [1] It is part of the Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) family, designed with simplified language for new readers and seekers. The Urdu ERV was initially made available online in 2004 in PDF and image formats, due to the technical challenges of typesetting the Nastaliq script used for Urdu. [1] A Unicode-based digital edition became available beginning in 2009, starting with the New Testament. [1] The ERV translation program was founded in 1973 by Janis Brooks at the World Bible Translation Center in Arlington, Texas, with the goal of producing accessible Scripture in the world's most widely spoken languages.
