Urdu Bible (URDPNT)
Overview
The Urdu Bible (URDPNT) is a full Bible translation in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. The history of Urdu Bible translation dates to the 18th century, with missionaries such as Henry Martyn, who printed the New Testament in Urdu script in 1814. [1] The first complete Urdu Bible was published in 1843 as Kitab ul quds Purana aur Naya Ahdnama. [1] Subsequent major revisions include the Revised Version (Kitab-i-Muqaddas) published by the British and Foreign Bible Society and later by both the Bible Society of India and the Pakistan Bible Society, translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. [1][2] Urdu is written in the Nastaliq script, though Bible editions were also available in Roman script from the Bible Society of India until the 1960s. [1]
