Overview
The Uri New Testament was published in 2016 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with earlier Bible portions available since 1974 [1]. Uri (also known as Urii or Erap) is a Finisterre language of the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken in Morobe Province on the southern slopes of the Saruwaged Range [2]. The language has approximately 6,900 speakers divided between two main dialects, East Urii and West Urii [1]. Bible translation work among the Uri people has been supported by SIL, with phonological analysis of the language documented in SIL archives [3]. The vernacular title "Anutuning midi totangka inga'ni" identifies this as the New Testament in the Uri language.
