Viemo New Testament (VIGANT)

Overview

The Viemo New Testament was produced by ANTBA (Association Nationale pour la Traduction de la Bible et l'Alphabétisation, also known as ANTBA-BF), Burkina Faso's national Bible translation organization and a member of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. ANTBA works across approximately 18 languages to make the Word of God available to all the peoples of Burkina Faso in their mother tongue. Scripture portions in Viemo are available, and audio New Testament content is accessible through Faith Comes By Hearing. No complete Bible has been reported for this language.

Language and People

Viemo (ISO 639-3: vig), also known as Vige, Vigué, or Vigye, is spoken by approximately 17,000 people in Karangasso-Vigué Department, southeastern of Bobo Dioulasso in southwestern Burkina Faso, with speakers also in the villages of Klesso, Dérégouan, and Dan. It belongs to the Niger-Congo language family; its precise genetic affiliation within that family has not been fully established. The language is the first language of all within the Vige ethnic community. While most Vige adults also speak Jula (the regional trade language), the community has shown limited responsiveness to Gospel materials in Jula, making mother-tongue Scripture particularly significant.

Publishing and Organizations
