Walmajarri Scripture Portions (WMTWWJ)

Overview

"Wangki Wulyu Jirrkirlikanujuwal" ("The Good News that Straightens") is a collection of Scripture portions in the Walmajarri language, published in 1985. [1] The translation was produced collaboratively by members of Wycliffe Bible Translators and Walmajarri people at Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia over a 14-year period from 1969 to 1983. [1] The Old Testament passages are presented as stories covering most major characters and events of Old Testament history, while the New Testament selections are drawn from the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Epistles. [1] The completed text was checked by the Translation Department of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Australian Aborigines Branch. [1] The Walmajarri traditionally lived in the Great Sandy Desert south of the Kimberley but now reside in towns and communities stretching from Mulan (Lake Gregory) in the east along the Fitzroy River valley to Bidyadanga on the coast.
