Garrwa New Testament Portions (WRKWBT)

Overview

The Garrwa New Testament Portions, titled "Kunyba Jangkurr Kudkanyi," comprise more than half of the New Testament together with a panorama of Old Testament passages. [1] The translation was carried out by Ted and Christine Furby, members of Wycliffe Bible Translators New Zealand, who worked among the Garrwa people in the Northern Territory beginning in 1968. [2] The audio version of the text was published in 1983 by Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia, and the electronic edition reflects that published text. [1] Ted Furby died in 1987, and Christine continued working on additional Old Testament passages into her retirement before passing away in early 2021. [2] The Garrwa language belongs to the Garrwan language family and has two recognized varieties: Heavy (Eastern) Garrwa and Light (Western) Garrwa. [1]
