Konkomba New Testament (XONWBT)

Overview

The Konkomba New Testament, titled Uwumbɔr Aagbaŋ, was published in 2014 by the Bible Society of Ghana after a translation effort that began in 2005. [1] The project was a collaboration between the Bible Society of Ghana, the Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT), and the Komba Literacy and Bible Translation Project (KOLIBITRAP), with support from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana. [1] [2] The New Testament was dedicated on November 1, 2014, in a community celebration, and audio recordings were subsequently produced to serve the Komba community's strong oral tradition. [2] Konkomba (Likpakpaln) is a Gur language of the Oti-Volta branch, spoken primarily in the Northern and North East regions of Ghana and in neighboring Togo. [3] Work on the Old Testament began in 2015, and the complete Bible was later launched with the support of the United Bible Societies. [4]

Language and People

Konkomba (ISO 639-3: xon) is spoken by approximately 915,700 people in Ghana. [Glottolog: liko1247] The language uses the Lichabol dialect as its reference dialect for the Bible translation, though the various Konkomba dialects differ significantly and can be mutually unintelligible without sustained exposure.
