Nyankpa New Testament — WBT / Nyankpa Language Committee (YESWBT)

Overview

The Nyankpa New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into Nyankpa (Yeskwa), an Afro-Asiatic language of north-central Nigeria, produced through a partnership between Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Nyankpa Language and Bible Translation Committee. The translation uses the Ejung dialect as the basis for the written standard, a decision made by the community's own translation committee to ensure broad acceptance across the four main dialects. Language and People

Nyankpa (ISO 639-3: yes), also called Yeskwa or nyankpá, is spoken by more than 70,000 people in the northeastern part of Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, and the southern part of Jama'a LGA, Kaduna State, Nigeria. [2] The language has four mutually intelligible dialects: Ejung, Ejira, Engbe (Iŋmgbe), and Ogbom. It is also known by the alternative names Ejira, Ejung, Engbe, Ogbom, Barde, Bede, and Buzi.

Translation and Publisher

The Nyankpa Language and Bible Translation Committee — working in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators — developed the translation with a deliberate process of community involvement. The committee selected the Ejung dialect for the writing system to provide a unified orthographic standard for all speakers. Audio Bible stories are also available through the Global Recordings Network, extending Scripture access to those who prefer oral formats.
