Kiyombe New Testament with Psalms (YOMOKC)

Overview

Nkanda Wu Moyo, Nguizani Yimona ayi Minkunga (Book of Life, Good News and Psalms) is a New Testament with Psalms in the Kiyombe language, published by Biblica in 2002. The Kiyombe language is spoken by approximately 1.5 million Yombe people primarily in the western Bas-Congo province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the Mayombe forest region, with additional speakers in Angola and the Republic of the Congo. [1] This edition is described as a revision, indicating it builds on earlier Scripture translation work in Kiyombe. [2] The Yombe are part of the broader Kongo cultural and linguistic group, and early Bible translation work in Kongo languages was pioneered by Baptist missionaries beginning in 1879, with W. Holman Bentley producing a complete Kongo Bible in 1905. [3] Christianity is widespread among the Yombe, with approximately 99% identifying as Christian. [1]
