Kimbunda New Testament — Association Congolaise de Traductions de la Bible (ZMPACT)

Overview

The Kimbunda New Testament is a Scripture translation in the Mbuun (Kimbunda/Mpuun) language of the Democratic Republic of Congo, produced by the Association Congolaise de Traductions de la Bible (ACTB). ACTB is a Congolese organization based in Kinshasa whose mandate is Bible translation and related literacy work across the many languages of the DRC. The translation is distributed in audio format under the language's local name Kimbunda. [1]

Language and People

Mbuun (ISO 639-3: zmp), known locally as Kimbunda, Mpuun, Mboon, or Gimbunda, is a Bantu language (zone B87) spoken by approximately 165,000 people in the Idiofa Territory of Kwilu Province (formerly part of Bandundu Province), western DRC. [2] The Bunda people (also Ambuun) who speak this language are primarily located in the Idiofa area east of Kwilu Province. The language was first documented and written in the 1930s, and partial Bible translations have been produced at various stages over the following decades.

Translation and Publisher

The Association Congolaise de Traductions de la Bible (ACTB, "Kobongola Biblya nde etinda na biso") coordinates written and oral Bible translation, literacy work, and trauma healing Scripture programs across the DRC's many language communities. ACTB works in partnership with international Bible translation organizations and local churches to produce and distribute Scripture in mother-tongue languages. [1] The Bible.is listing refers to the Kimbunda edition, indicating that ACTB has produced at least a New Testament in the Mbuun language for audio distribution.
