Mixtepec Zapotec New Testament (ZPMTBL)

Overview

The Mixtepec Zapotec New Testament was translated by Roger and Marilyn Reeck, Wycliffe Bible Translators, over a period of 19 years. [1] When the Reecks arrived in the community, there was no written form of the language, so Roger first crafted an alphabet and taught literacy. The Gospel of Mark was the first book published in 1981, with additional books following. [1] The New Testament was dedicated in 1999. [2] Roger Reeck also compiled folk tales ("Cuentos populares de San Pedro Mixtepec," 1980) and a trilingual Zapotec-English-Spanish dictionary (1991) as part of the language documentation work. [1]

Mixtepec Zapotec (ISO 639-3: zpm) is spoken by approximately 7,000 people in Southern Central Mexico. [Glottolog: mixt1426]
