Mairasi New Testament (ZRSWBT)

Overview

The Mairasi New Testament was published in 2004 by Wycliffe Bible Translators in the Mairasi language, spoken by approximately 3,300 people in Papua (formerly Irian Jaya), Indonesia. The primary translator was Lloyd Peckham, who with his wife Nancy learned the unwritten Mairasi language and lived on New Guinea for 13 years before health issues forced his departure. [1] Peckham trained local translators, notably a man named Benny who, despite having only a third-grade education, learned Greek and became proficient in translation. The Mairasi people completed the New Testament under Peckham's distant supervision. [1] Bible portions had been available since 1986-1999 prior to the full NT. [2]
