Newar (Prachalit Nepal)
The Prachalit Nepal script (also called Prachalit or Newar script) is a traditional writing system used by the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal to write the Nepal Bhasa (Newari) language, a Sino-Tibetan language. It is one of several scripts associated with the Newar community, alongside Ranjana and other related scripts. Prachalit is an abugida derived from the Brahmi script family and written from left to right. It was historically used for literary, religious, and administrative texts in the Malla kingdoms of Nepal. The script has been revitalised through community efforts and is taught in some schools as part of the preservation of Newari language and culture. Its Unicode encoding is associated with the Newa script block (added in Unicode 9.0, 2016).
