King James Version (ENGKJV)

Overview

The King James Version (KJV), also known as the Authorized Version, is an English translation of the Bible commissioned by King James I of England and first published in 1611. This edition uses the standardized text of 1769 and includes the Apocrypha/Deuterocanon. The translation was carried out by 47 scholars organized into six companies, working from the Textus Receptus for the New Testament and the Masoretic Text for the Old Testament, with reference to earlier English translations including the Bishops' Bible and the Geneva Bible. [1] The 1769 revision by Benjamin Blayney at Oxford standardized the spelling, punctuation, and cross-references, producing the text in common use today. [1]
