Trinidad and Tobago, officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is the southernmost island country in the Caribbean. It comprises two main islands, Trinidad and Tobago, along with several smaller islands. The nation is located just 11 kilometers northeast off the coast of Venezuela and about 130 kilometers south of Grenada. Covering a total area of approximately 5,131 square kilometers, it has a population of about 1.5 million people as of 2024. The capital city is Port of Spain, while the largest and most populous municipality is Chaguanas. The official language is English. Trinidad and Tobago operates as a unitary parliamentary republic. The economy is one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean, primarily based on petroleum and natural gas production, alongside manufacturing and tourism. The country is known for its diverse culture, vibrant festivals like Carnival, and as the birthplace of calypso and soca music. Trinidad and Tobago is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the Commonwealth of Nations.
