Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a multilingual nation in Western Europe, comprising three main linguistic communities: Dutch-speaking Flemings, French-speaking Walloons, and a small German-speaking minority. As of 2021, approximately 60% of the population speaks Dutch (primarily in the Flanders region), around 39% speaks French (mainly in Wallonia and Brussels), and a mere 1% speaks German (in the eastern part of the country). Belgium's three official languages, Dutch, French, and German, reflect the nation's diverse linguistic heritage and are each used by various levels of government and administration.
