Afrikaans Old Bible (AFRABY)

Overview

Passages from the Bible were originally translated into Afrikaans in 1878 by CP Hoogenhout, A Pannevis and SJ du Toit. The first complete Bible, translated from the original languages by a team that included J.D. du Toit (Totius), E.E. van Rooyen, J.D. Kestell, H.C.M. Fourie, G.B.A. Gerdener and B.B. Keet, was finished in 1933 and introduced at a Bible Festival in Bloemfontein on 27 August 1933. A Revised Edition followed in 1953, updating name spellings and adding cross-references that were retained in subsequent printings. Known as the 1933/53-vertaling, it remains a very popular traditional translation of the Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic source texts.
