Angal Heneg New Testament (AKHBSP)

Overview

The Angal Heneng New Testament, titled Ngaoron Angal Bib Hobao Sao: Ngo Wi O, was published in Lae in 1978 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea, in partnership with the SIL Papua New Guinea Branch. It is the first Scripture publication in the Angal Heneng language. [1] The translation was carried out by Vic and Elsie Schlatter, working under the Tiliba Christian Church, and was accompanied by a primer for literacy training. [2] Angal Heneng, also known as Mendi, is a Trans-New Guinea language spoken in the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, with approximately 40,000 speakers. [3] The Mendi people are one of the major groups of the Southern Highlands, with a culture centered on agriculture and ceremonial exchange.
