Alangan 1989 Edition (ALJOMF)

Overview

The Alangan New Testament was published in 1989 by OMF International, with Bible portions available from 1962 through 1981. [1] Alangan is an Austronesian language of the North Mangyan group, with about 2,150 speakers recorded in 2002. The Alangan are one of the eight Mangyan tribal groups inhabiting the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. They live in north-central Mindoro, in the municipalities of Naujan, Baco, San Teodoro, and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro, and in Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro. [1] OMF missionaries began work among the Mangyan tribes of Mindoro in the 1950s, reducing tribal languages to writing, teaching literacy, and then translating Scripture. [2]
