Ivbie North-Okpela-Arhe New Testament (ATGWYI)

Overview

The Ivbie North-Okpela-Arhe New Testament (titled Ebe-No-Pfuasẹ Ishobọ Onogbọ) was published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators in partnership with the Abakaliki Literacy and Translation Trust, bringing the first New Testament to speakers of this North-Central Edoid language in Edo State, Nigeria. [1] The language is a dialect cluster covering three closely related varieties — Ivbie North, Okpela (Okpella), and Arhe (Ate) — spoken by the Okpella, Ate, and Okpekpe peoples in the Etsako and Akoko-Edo Local Government Areas of Edo State. [2] According to Joshua Project, Bible portions in the language became available during 2009–2012, preceding the completed New Testament. [3] A print-on-demand edition of the New Testament has been made available through the Digital Bible Society in collaboration with Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Bible League of Canada, and Open Doors International.
