Overview

The Avaric Bible (AVRIBT) is a New Testament translation in the Avar language, published by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) in Moscow. [1] The translation is written in Cyrillic script, which has been the standard writing system for Avar since the Soviet era. Avar is the most widely spoken of the Nakho-Dagestanian languages, with over 700,000 speakers primarily in the Republic of Dagestan in the Russian Federation. [1] The IBT has been working on Avar Scripture since 1979, when the Gospel of John was first published. [1]
