Akoose New Testament (BSSWBT)

Overview

New Testament in Akoose (CM:bss:Akoose). The population of the Akoose is 100,000 and they live in the regions of the South West Province of Kupe-Muanenguba , Bangem and Tombel Divisions and the subdivisions of Littoral Province, Moungo Division, Manjo Subdivisions of Cameroon. Alternate names are Akosi, Bakossi, Bekoose, Koose, Kosi, Nkoosi, Nkosi. Dialects are Northern Bakossi, Western Bakossi, Southern Bakossi, Mwambong, Ninong, Elung (Elong, Along, Nlong), Mwamenam (Mouamenam). The language Classification is Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Narrow Bantu, Northwest, Lundu-Balong, Ngoe. Language development consists of a Dictionary and Bible portions. The Writing system is in the Latin script. Akoose belongs to the Manenguba (Ngoe) cluster of Narrow Bantu and is spoken west of Mount Manenguba in Cameroon's Southwest Region. The translation was carried out under the Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy (CABTAL), with Rev. Nelson Ndando seconded full-time in July 1998 to coordinate the project; translators Ngole Hans Kede and Masango Zacheus Nkwelle worked with SIL consultants Robert and Ria Hedinger, and the Gospel of Luke was the first dedicated portion.
