Southern Carrier New Testament (CAFWBT)

Overview

The Southern Carrier New Testament (Yakʼusda bughunek: k'andit khunek neba lhaidinla), published by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2002, is a translation in the Ulkatcho dialect of the Southern Carrier (Dakelh) language of British Columbia, Canada. The translation was adapted from the earlier Stuart Lake dialect New Testament (published in 1995 by the Carrier Bible Translation Committee) by Vivian Cahoose and Dick Walker. [1] [4] Wycliffe followed the 2002 New Testament with Genesis in 2006 and a combined revised volume in 2023. Southern Carrier is a Northern Athabaskan language spoken by approximately 2,055 people in the central interior of British Columbia, also known as Dakelh or Yinka Dene, and is classified by UNESCO as severely endangered. [1] The Carrier Linguistic Committee, affiliated with the Summer Institute of Linguistics and based in Fort Saint James, produced significant literacy and linguistic materials for various Dakelh dialects prior to the founding of the Yinka Dene Language Institute in 1988.
