Caluyanun New Testament (CLUMBB)
Overview
The Caluyanun New Testament (Anang ambal ang Dios: Magandang balita Biblia) was published in 1990 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., and represents the first complete New Testament for this Western Bisayan language spoken on a group of small islands in the central Philippines. [1] The translation was carried out primarily by Kermit Titrud, who began fieldwork in the Philippines in 1977, and Raquel Titrud, whom he married on the island in 1981; together they served the Caluyanun-speaking communities spread across approximately ten small islands. [2] Kermit Titrud worked through the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), Wycliffe's strategic partner organization, and his early linguistic studies of the language — including a phonemics analysis (1979) and an everyday phrase book (1978) — laid the groundwork for the translation. [3] Caluyanon is a Western Bisayan language spoken primarily on Caluya Island and the Semirara Island Group in Antique province, and also known as Caluyanen or Caluyanhon. [4] The New Testament is available as a mobile application and through online Bible platforms, extending Scripture access to Caluyanun-speaking communities across the Philippines diaspora. [1]
