Desano 1984 Edition (DESWBT)

Overview

Desano is an Eastern Tucanoan language of the Vaupés basin in Colombia and Brazil. The initial draft of the Desano New Testament was carried out by a young man who grew up in a two-language household, his father speaking Desano and his mother Guanano, and his bilingual translation served as the basis for the New Testament. The project was not without difficulties: in August 1975 the translators were asked to leave a Desano village under pressure from the local Catholic mission. After relocating and re-establishing the work, the translation continued despite trials throughout the process and was completed in 1984.

Language and People

Desano (ISO 639-3: des) is spoken by approximately 3,420 people in Northwestern Brazil. [Glottolog: desa1247]
