Southwestern Dinka New Testament (DIKTBL)

Overview

The Southwestern Dinka New Testament, titled "Lek yam" in the vernacular, is a 2006 translation of the New Testament into the Rek dialect of Dinka, the prestige and standard dialect of the Dinka language cluster. [1] The Dinka are one of the largest ethnic groups in South Sudan, and the Rek dialect is spoken by approximately 500,000 people in the southwestern region. [2] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators with technical support from SIL International; the Dinka Rek were among 12 South Sudanese language communities to receive New Testaments through this partnership. [2] A dedication ceremony was held following the delivery of 30,000 printed copies, which had been delayed for months awaiting customs clearance in Wau, the central city of the region. [2] Work toward a complete Dinka Rek Bible has continued, with a first manuscript of the full Bible from Genesis to Revelation reported completed in 2011. [3]
