Bible in Basic English (1964) (ENGBBE)

Overview

The Bible in Basic English (BBE) is a translation using a vocabulary limited to approximately 1,000 words from C. K. Ogden's Basic English word list — roughly 850 core words plus 100 added for general use — together with an additional 50 words specific to the Bible. A committee working from the Hebrew and Greek prepared the text under the direction of Professor Samuel Henry Hooke (1874-1968), professor emeritus of Old Testament studies at the University of London. [1] The New Testament was first published in 1941, and the complete Bible, including the Apocrypha, followed in 1949.
