New American Standard Bible (ENGNASB)

Overview

The New American Standard Bible (NASB) was completed in 1971. While preserving the literal accuracy of the 1901 American Standard Version, it renders grammar and terminology in contemporary English, using a formal equivalence (word-for-word) translation philosophy while recognizing the need for readability. Special attention was given to the rendering of verb tenses to bring the English as close as possible to the sense of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. It was translated by an anonymous committee of conservative Protestant scholars from the Biblia Hebraica (Kittel, and later Stuttgartensia) and the Nestle Greek New Testament. In 1995 the text was updated for greater understanding and smoother reading, modernizing archaic pronouns and verb forms, and the 2020 revision (NASB 2020) adjusted gendered language and refreshed vocabulary.
