Translation for Translators (2016) (ENGT4T)

Overview

Translation for Translators (T4T) is an English Bible translation that makes implied information explicit in the text as an aid to translators who may need that information to correctly translate into a particular language. It was developed by Ellis Deibler, an SIL/Wycliffe translator who served on the Gahuku New Testament project in Papua New Guinea, over decades as a study Bible for mother-tongue translators. The text spells out figures of speech, pronominal references, rhetorical questions, and cultural assumptions that more literal English versions leave implicit, helping translators decide what to encode in their own language. The full Bible was completed in 2008 and continued to receive corrections through 2016.
