1938 Suomennos Version (FIN38CB)
Overview
The 1938 Finnish Bible (Kirkkoraamattu 1933/38) is the official translation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, published by the Finnish Bible Society. The Old Testament was published in 1933 and the New Testament in 1938, replacing the earlier 1776 Finnish Bible. [1] A translation committee appointed in 1911 completed its work in 1933; the resulting text used formal equivalence following a "one source-language word – one Finnish word" principle in a deliberately archaic register. It served as the standard Finnish Bible throughout the 20th century until a new translation was published in 1992. [1] The 1776 Biblia it superseded had been the first edition in modern Finnish for ecclesiastical and domestic use, and remains in use among some revival movements because of its Textus Receptus basis.
