Latin Gamo New Testament (GMVWBT)
Overview
New Testament in Gamo (ET:gmv:Gamo). The Gamo Bible translation project began in 2003 as a partnership between The Word for the World, The Seed Company, and local churches in the Gamo-speaking area of southwestern Ethiopia [1]. Four translators -- Andinet Meaza, Arega Adada, Tesfaye Tole, and Teliko Tona -- carried out the translation work over nearly a decade [1]. The completed New Testament was dedicated in 2012 at a ceremony attended by more than 10,000 people from surrounding villages, who celebrated receiving the Scriptures in their own language for the first time [1]. This Latin-script edition, published by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2011 under the vernacular title "Ooratha Caaqo Maxaafa Gamoththo," is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license [2]. Following the New Testament dedication, work continued toward a complete Gamo Bible, with the translation team pursuing Old Testament translation [1].
