Tischendorf Greek Bible (GRCTIS)

Overview

This is the Greek New Testament text edited by Constantin von Tischendorf (1815-1874), the German biblical scholar and textual critic who edited successive critical editions of the Greek New Testament between 1841 and 1872. He is renowned for his discovery of the Codex Sinaiticus at St. Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai in 1844 and 1859, which supplied a key fourth-century witness. [1] Tischendorf's critical edition of the Greek New Testament, the Editio octava critica maior (8th critical edition), published in two volumes in 1869 and 1872, was a landmark in New Testament textual criticism, collating more manuscript evidence than any previous edition. [1] Its prolegomena were completed by Caspar René Gregory in 1894, and the edition remained the most comprehensive apparatus of New Testament manuscript variants until the Nestle and Nestle-Aland editions of the 20th century.
