Wescott & Hort Translation (GRCWHT)

Overview

The New Testament in the Original Greek is a Greek-language version of the New Testament published in 1881. It is also known as the Westcott and Hort text, after its editors Brooke Foss Westcott (1825–1901) and Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828–1892). Textual scholars use the abbreviations "WH" or "WHNU". It is a critical text, compiled largely from the fourth-century Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus, which the editors regarded as the preferred "Neutral" text type, among some of the oldest New Testament fragments and texts discovered at the time. It is a reconstruction of the original Greek New Testament rather than a translation into a vernacular language. An accompanying Introduction and Appendix followed in 1882.
