Wayuu 2002 Edition (GUCWBT)

Overview

The Wayuu 2002 Edition, titled Tu nuchikimaajatkat Jesucristo in the vernacular, is a New Testament translation in the Wayuu language (Wayuunaiki), an Arawakan language spoken by between 600,000 and 800,000 indigenous Wayuu people on the Guajira Peninsula straddling the Colombia-Venezuela border [1][2]. This edition was published in 2002 as a first edition by La Liga Biblica Internacional (Bible League International) [3][4]. The Wayuu are the largest indigenous group in both Colombia and Venezuela, comprising nearly 20 percent of Colombia's indigenous population [1][5]. Building on earlier New Testament translation efforts including this 2002 edition, the Colombian Bible Society completed the first full Bible in Wayuunaiki in 2024, titled Nunuiki Maleiwa ("Word of God"), a project that took approximately 13 years and involved native translators, biblical scholars, and linguistic consultants [5][6].
