Mbyá Guaraní New Testament (GUNWBT)

Overview

The Mbyá Guaraní New Testament, titled Nhanderuete ayvu iky'a e'ỹ va'e, was completed in 2004 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and published by the Bible Society of Brazil (Sociedade Bíblica do Brasil) [1][2]. This was the first New Testament translation in the Mbyá Guaraní language, a Tupí-Guaraní language spoken by approximately 17,000 people across southern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and eastern Paraguay [2][3]. The printed edition was assigned ISBN 853110565X, and the text was later made available digitally under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives license through eBible.org and other platforms [1]. Mbyá Guaraní speakers are concentrated in villages within the Atlantic Forest regions of the southern Brazilian states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo [3]. The translation is also available in audio format through Global Recordings Network and as a mobile application [4].
