Overview

Today's Taiwanese Hakka Bible (Hien-thoi Thoi-van Hak-ngi Yit-pun) is a New Testament translation in the Hakka Chinese language, published in 1993 by the Bible Society in Taiwan. Work on the translation commenced on May 10, 1984, with the formation of the Hakka Bible Translation Committee, a joint effort involving the Bible Society in Taiwan, the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and the Christian Hakka Evangelical Association. [1] Drawing on the Today's Chinese Version as a reference text, the committee also benefited from a team of Canadian Presbyterian scholars with expertise in the Hebrew Bible and Greek Septuagint to improve the accuracy and clarity of the text. [1] The New Testament and Psalms were completed in 1993, followed by Proverbs in 1995. A full Bible edition, including revisions to the earlier New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs, was published on April 11, 2012, at the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan's annual General Assembly meeting, with a dedication ceremony on April 22. [1] The translation is available in both Hakka Chinese characters using traditional Chinese script (Hant) and Pha̍k-fa-sṳ romanization.
