Ruhaya Bible (HAYBST)

Overview

The Ruhaya Bible, known as Ebibulia 2001, is a New Testament translation in the Haya language published in 2001 by the Bible Society of Tanzania, and is the standard Bible Society of Tanzania edition for Haya readers. The Haya (or Bahaya) are a Bantu ethnic group residing in the Kagera Region of northwestern Tanzania, on the western shores of Lake Victoria, primarily in the Bukoba, Muleba, and Karagwe districts. [1] The Haya people are historically notable for their complex kingship-based political system and for independently developing carbon steel smelting techniques dating back approximately 2,000 years. [1] The Bible Society of Tanzania has been active in translating Scripture into numerous Tanzanian languages, and the Ruhaya New Testament serves the approximately 1.9 million Haya speakers in the region.
